Hot off the press!

Another date has been added to the Victorian Vinduro calendar: September 16.

Some words on modern bikes and vinduros...

Following the very successful Vinduro at Castella on January 29, some concerns were raised about the presence of riders on modern bikes riding around the course.

The property owner had this to say:

"I am sorry about the two clowns on the modern bikes. They were supposed to be sweeping, helping riders and not annoying anyone by racing each other. Their bikes are registered for trail riding.

They will be dealth with! (I’ll borrow Dave Hammond’s Hodaka 100, and make them ride the course.)

In all fairness to the two guys, their help recently enabled the event to go ahead. It ran the risk of being cancelled again due to a big storm which ripped through our track and dropped huge trees everywhere. Those two spent all day in the rain chainsawing, quite apart from the many other times they’ve been up clearing the course for all of you to have a good time doing what we all love.

They are good guys who just got a little carried away. They are recently retired Enduro riders, so all they really know how to do, is race. Sorry guys, I should have kept an eye on them."

The only modern motorbikes on the course at any Victorian vinduro should be those ridden by officials such as sweep riders. Wherever possible they should be wearing a vest or some other kind of identification, and will be covered by the appropriate insurance.

We are taking steps to ensure that this is the case at all subsequent events.

Celebration of 70s & 80s Motocross at 2012 HBBB

A hot start to the 2012 season at Castella

79 riders attended the first Victorian event for the year on January 29, a number far in excess of what was expected. This figure was made all the more amazing by the fact it was the Australia Day weekend, and it was blazing hot (around 34⁰).

It was great to see so many new faces, and different bikes.

Despite the heat, quite a few riders managed to clock up impressive lap tallies, including Grahame (KDX200) and Ryan (PE250) with 17 apiece.

Thanks to everyone who made the event possible; especially the officials/volunteers, first aid crew, Bingara Dell property owner, Discount Motorcycle Wreckers, Stacker Motorcycles, and anyone else we've forgotten.

Some other dates for your diaries...

Work continues on finalising the venues and dates for the 2012 Victorian Vinduro season. Here are a couple more to add to the list:

June 3: Vinduro / Sprint at Mount Egerton, with a club rego ("red plate") ride to take most likely to take place on Saturday, June 2.

November 25: Vinduro at Castella or Flowerdale. Exact venue yet to be finalised.

We are also working on a couple more potential events, so stay tuned for details.

2012 HBBB to open with Golden Era celebration

The 2012 Honda Broadford Bike Bonanza (HBBB) will kick off on Good Friday evening, 6 April, with a celebration of 70’s – 80’s Motocross (the Golden Era). 

The evening will take place in the Speedway Shed at the State Motorcycle Sports Complex, Broadford, and is billed to be a once in a lifetime reunion with all your old race rivals, sponsors, tuners, mates and worshippers present.

Event Organiser Peter Drakeford is looking forward to introducing this unique event to the HBBB.

“I know all our lives have changed since we were young, but one thing we all have in common is that Motocross in this golden era was perhaps the biggest and most exciting thing we have ever been involved with,” Drakeford said.

“The proof of that is the way people I’ve contacted to help have put in massive amounts of time and effort at their own cost in creating this ‘never before’ event inside the HBBB.”

The reunion will be a gathering of old bikes, memorabilia, old stories and memories, and a special display of Honda Motocross models from the ground-breaking ‘Elsinore’ series of 1973 to the last of the air cooled models of 1984.

Jeff Leisk, Aussie international Motocross star and pioneer, will be attending the event, and a very special display of Leisk’s 1989 Honda Factory RC 500 and his Aussie title winning Hondas will be ‘eye candy’ for us all. 

The evening will start officially at 6pm and will consist of interviews of the old stars of the era including Leisk and legend Ray Owen, films of our old races and racers and the best part - catching up with the old faces you might not have seen for 30 or 40 years!

Unofficial Motocross historian, tragic and illustrator Roger Harvey is compiling a 120-page book of unpublished photos of the stars of the era, which will be on sale at the opening. Limited numbers are available and are sure to be instant collectors’ items.

Bar facilities and a fish and chip dinner will be available, or BYO on the night.

But that’s not all - the HBBB is a celebration of all pre-1985 historic Motorcycle disciplines. You can go and see your favourite old Road Racer, Speedway and Short Circuit riders, Trials and Enduro riders in action on one of the complex’s circuits too, as all disciplines have their own riding area or track with excellent spectator areas. See bikes you haven’t seen or even heard the sound of in years, and re-kindle old friendships. You will probably even see your favourite bike you owned in the era.
