VERi on Facebook

We might be all about reliving the past at VERi, but that doesn't mean we're totally out of step with the modern world (well, not completely).

In the interests of spreading the good word about vinduros, VERi now has it's own Facebook page:

VERi: A vintage club for the future (press release)

Like its namesake, Vintage Enduro Riders Inc. (VERi) is enduro with vintage bikes, and club secretary Peter Drakeford is really excited for the future of the sport.

Vintage enduro’s cut-off point for motorcycles is 1984 and they are ergonomically similar to modern bikes without all the refinements.

“VERi was formed as a response to the growing enthusiasm for non-competitive and vintage enduro-styled events over the past five years,” Drakeford explained. “At VERi we want to preserve and honour the precursor bikes to the current state of the art enduro bikes by showing how much technology has improved the breed.

“We aim to replicate enduro events of the 1970s and 1980s with the Parc Ferme, cold start tests, 3 riders per minute, check-points, and route checks,” he added.

VERi’s major event is their annual Harrow Vinduro on July 27-28 in Harrow, south of Horsham, in the state’s south-west.

“This is the first year of VERi’s total control of the event. At our events we always aim to make the courses a bit more challenging for the average rider then just a trail ride; even for the older bikes so they can be appreciated for what they were designed to do decades before,” Drakeford continued..

VERi also organises ‘Red Plate Rides’ for club permitted-registered bikes. VERi will also work with VicRoads to properly scrutineer and process trail bikes and Peter believes that VERi will run both these rides through MARD and MV-sanctioned rides on private land.

“At VERi we also want to honour the old technology and keep the sport of Vinduro affordable and I believe we have achieved this as owners and riders of these bikes appreciate the fun you can have with low-tech machinery,” Drakeford concluded.
