Event Report: Canowindra (NSW) Vinduro, June long weekend 2013

A total of 68 riders attended and $1,000 was raised from canteen sales for the local sporting and fitness club.
VERi’s Rob Shoemark was the event co-ordinator, and he provided this report:
“We arrived in the district late Thursday afternoon and were greeted by consistent rain. This was lining up just perfectly.
Up early Friday morning and off to the site of the event, The Picturesque property Broadview.
On arrival we were greeted by a light fog and light rain, but by 12.30 the weather had cleared and the sky was almost blue. The ground was soft from a few days rain and all was looking real good. Really lining up for a cracker of a week-end.
Following a quick camp set up we were off into the bush for a little final set out and course adjustments. The course was looking fine with a mixture of rocky and loamy terrain; this was shaping up to be a cracker.
Riders started arriving from approximately 12.30pm an surprisingly the camping area was nearly full by 5.30pm.
A big fire was set with refreshments being enjoyed by all. The revellers stayed up late with most riders in bed reasonably early in preparation for a big week-end of riding.(Some of the late nite revellers looked very dusty on Saturday morning and more so after the sighting lap)
Saturday morning we were greeted by a heavy fog and breakfast was cooked by the local sporting club and the food good. The fog lifted by 11am to reveal a perfect clear blue sky.
Saturday riding started a little later than anticipated due some course adjustments and additional time required for the track licensing procedure.
Riders briefing was done and dusted by about 11am and we hit the trail for a sighting lap.
Some indicated the course was a little difficult with the majority of the riders so excited you could feel the anticipation of a big days riding. We were away and riding on the course by 11.45am and it quickly cut in to reveal a course that was fast and flowing. By mid-afternoon the course was very fast and by late afternoon riders were practically flying .We practically had to usher the hard-core riders off the course at the 4pm cut off point.
Saturday evening was a good meal around the fire followed by some great old Enduro and MX movies on the big screen under the stars. This added another dimension to an already sensational weekend.
Great job by Dennis, Greg and Roger. Most people were in bed early in anticipation of a big day Sunday.
Sunday morning we were again greeted by a great breakfast and beautiful clear blue skies. We were away and riding early Sunday and the course really rose to the occasion with the trails very fast and flowing. Riders occupied the course until closing time at around 3pm.
There were numerous groups of riders circulating at quite a clip and it was absolutely fabulous to ride with them.
The quality of bike at these vinduro events has risen remarkably over the years and this meeting was no exception. Most bikes at the event were beautifully prepared and all riders should be congratulated.
Finally we would like to thank:
The Middleton Family for providing us with a fabulous venue, providing the much needed help to prepare the course and a sensational group of sweep riders for the whole week-end. A big call out to Julie Middleton for arranging, preparing and cooking us a fabulous breakfast and lunch both days.
Greg and Roger for all the weekends and late afternoons they put in organising and preparing and outstanding course for us to ride, the sensational event transfers to commemorate the event, birthday cake and unreal working showers setup.
The Manly Warringah Motor Cycle club for again supporting the vinduro scene, with a big call out to our President Frank for again giving up his weekend to run our meeting as smooth as a Swiss watch.
Steve Baker for providing his off-road vehicle and purpose built trailer for course set out, course pull out and recovery of broken bikes (and some marginal competition on the trail over the week-end)
Husky Pete Andrews for again providing the main prizes for both days of the event.
The team from Coates Hire for sweep riding the course all weekend and providing some prizes for the Riders
Mick from Enduro Bike Talk for posting fabulous photos from the event on the EBT forum.
Last but not least I would like to thank all the people who support the vinduro scene by entering the events. Many people travelled vast distances to ride with us over the weekend. So to all the families and riders that attended great effort and thanks for supporting our event."
